A personal website can be used to market your self AND your practice. It can be a great addition to every Internet marketing plan where there is more than 1 health provider. Personal websites (and landing pages) can help distinguish you from your colleagues/partners who may practice similar specialties and help you stand out above your competition. Best of all, the Internet rankings, SEO and website traffic you build…are all portable should you ever have to leave. All med students and those in training should consider starting a personal page now.
This post corresponds to our latest podcast episode of “Russ and Randy” – a podcast on Healthcare and Medical Internet Marketing. We hope you like “How a Personal Website Grows Your Practice.” You can find us on iTunes …and now, ReachMD.com!
There are many advantages to starting your own website, that is, a website just about you. A personal website or landing page can enhance your digital marketing strategy by ranking content just about you. It’s a gigantic “About ” page.
Here are some reasons why Russ and I suggest everyone (except those in solo practice) should consider a personal website. Med students and those in training, this includes you!
Purchasing the URL
The exact URL does not really matter. You can either use your name or construct a URL which describes the services you provide. For instance, my website, www.retinaeyedoctor.com, compliments the websites of the two different practices who employ me.
This separate marketing effort allows me to outrank the practice websites when patients are looking for a “retina specialist.”
Distinguish Yourself and Your Practice
The extra website creates additional opportunities for you to distinguish your self from colleagues in the practice who have similar specialties.
Do you do charity or mission work? Are you a team physician? A personal site allows you to detail how you practice differently than others, describe different clinical interests and activities, etc.
Best of all, you are not competing with your practice. Building your portion of the practice through this site grows the group practice overall. No one can get upset.
Rankings and SEO are Portable
Consider starting your website now. It takes time to build a “trusted” site, that is, brand new sites do not rank very well because they are “untrusted.”
By employing the SEO techniques we talk about, your website rankings and traffic will grow. In the event you change practice locations, all your hard work is portable and goes with you!
