In this episode, we talk about website analytics. Similar to TV ratings, analytics gives you feedback about what topics your readers enjoy, what devices they use, the browsers they prefer and much more. Here’s how analytics can improve your website and grow your practice.
This post corresponds to our latest podcast episode of “Russ and Randy” – a podcast on Healthcare and Medical Internet Marketing. We hope you like “Use Website Analytics to Increase Rankings and Website Traffic.” You can find us on iTunes.
What is Analytics?
Analytics is data. It gives you feedback about the preferences and behavior of your audience.
It tracks all kinds of information, such as;
- # of visitors to your website (traffic)
- Articles visited
- Time spent on each web page
- Browser used by viewer
- Device used by the viewer
- How did the viewer find your web page?
- What country?
- IP address of the device
- iOS vs. Android
The data tracker needs to be specifically installed on your website. You will need to have your website developer or someone intimate with your website to do this.
Google’s is free and the gold standard. Russ has a nice article and video demonstrating how to install Google Analytics.
Value of Analytics to Your Practice
Analytics gives your feedback about the preferences of your readers. It allows you to see what interests your readers and what does not. This is valuable because will want to produce content which is interesting to your readers, not boring.
This data also gives you insight to the behavior of your readers; what kind of device, browsers preferred, etc. You want to know this type of information to ensure your website is performing as expected on the more popular devices and browsers. For instance, if most of your traffic visits your site using a mobile device (e.g. tablet, smart phone) you want to make sure your website is mobile responsive.
Similarly, not all websites behave/look the same way on different browsers. You might want to double check that your website is displayed, as you expect, on your readers’ preferred browser. Here’s an easy way to view your website on various screens. (It’s for Mac and PC. Also, the address is www.Blisk.io .)
Ensuring that you are writing content which is interesting and presented in a favorite format is essential to building your website traffic…and your practice.
Analytics Improves Rankings
Another important aspect of analytics is that it is an expected component of every website. Search engine look to make sure each website has an anlytics package installed. Websites lacking an analytics package will not rank as well.
Listen how Russ and I have specifically used analytics to change your websites…and practices.
