An RSS feed is a simple way for your followers, readers and patients to keep up to date with your website.
Really Simple Syndication
This is a method by which followers of your website may be automatically updated with new information or articles on your website.
An RSS feed is a standard component of every blog (e.g. WordPress, Drupal) and can easily added to any other website in most cases.
How Does it Work
After I publish an article on my website, the RSS feed broadcasts this information to all of my patients and readers (my followers) who have opted to be informed about updates on my website.
In this way, my followers are automatically up to date and they do NOT have to remember to return to my website for updates.
There are many EMS (email marketing service) companies which allow me to keep in contact with my followers.
I use both aWeber (paid) and MailChimp to help me keep in touch with my followers. You need only one.
After creating an account, the EMS regularly checks for updates on my website by checking the RSS feed. If a new article has been published, the EMS sends an email to everyone on my email list. In this way, all of my followers are notified of the update.
A reader may elect to subscribe to my RSS feed. The user will use an RSS reader, or aggregator, on their computer or similar device. The RSS reader automatically checks for updates on my site via the RSS feed and presents the new article to the user.
In this way, a reader can automatically keep up to date with multiple websites without actively remembering to visit each one individually.
Your Email List
You should collect email addresses of all your patients and allow followers to subscribe, via email, to your website.
This keeps those interested in you and your practice up to date.
As Russ said in our podcast, it is essential for building relationships. What does he mean? Simply put, keeping in touch with your patients and followers is the easiest way to start and reinforce relationships. Internet marketing is all about relationships.
You write an educational article on your website. This is read by your followers. You are providing value by educating them about a health related issue. With time and subsequent writings value develops trust between you and the reader. This will eventually lead to a new appointment.
For existing patients, the more they can learn from you or about you reinforces your relationship. For new patients, with subsequent articles value will develop between you and the reader. Eventually, this can lead to a new appointment.
An RSS feed is an the automatic connection between your website and your followers allowing them to keep up to date with your website.
